| Research and Evaluation |

Develop and implement research designs and methodology, collect and analyze data sets, and prepare project reports. |

Conduct studies of the effectiveness of new legislation related to traffic safety for the New York State Legislature, the Governor, and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and its member agencies. |

Conduct administrative and impact evaluations of programmatic and legislative initiatives. |
Survey Research |

Design and implement telephone, mail, and personal interview surveys measuring attitudes, knowledge, perceptions, and reported driving behaviors. |

Design and implement observational surveys of various driving behaviors, including seat belt use, motorcycle helmet use, cell phone use, and other distracted driving behaviors. |
| Data Services and Analytical Support |
|
Extract and analyze large-scale data sets using a variety of software including SAS, SPSS, Access, and Excel. |
| Training |
|
Develop curricula, case studies, and group exercises for training programs in 1) problem identification, setting goals, selecting performance measures, and developing program plans, and 2) evaluating state highway safety programs and preparing annual reports. |

| Multi-Agency Task Forces |
|
Organize and facilitate multi-agency advisory councils and study teams to identify solutions to traffic safety issues. Examples include New York’s Advisory Council on Impaired Driving and Traffic Records Coordinating Council. |
| Strategic Planning |
|
Design, organize, and conduct strategic planning processes incorporating risk assessment tools and performance-based planning approaches, as well as other strategies and tools. Prepare reports on outcomes to serve as a framework for setting priorities and allocating staff and other resources. |
| Conference Coordination |
|
Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the planning and implementation of major highway safety conferences. |
| Information Services |
|
Provide a variety of information services including internet searches and the dissemination of listings of technical reports, articles, and other materials held in ITSMR’s library. |
